More than Motivation!

What a beautiful and emotional evening we had at Sam’s Place for our 7th Motivational Mondays in Winnipeg. From the very start our endearing entertainer Gentil Missigaro – musician and passionate champion for immigrants to Canada had the packed house in the palm of his hands. With humor and heart he somehow got this crowd to sing a love song for Manitoba which, in itself was worth the price of admission!

“When you’re afraid of being killed most of your life, winter isn’t that bad.” – Gentil Misigaro

Based on his life experiences, you might expect Gentil to be bitter, frightened, and confrontational. In actuality, Gentil is quite the opposite. As his name connotes, Gentil is gentle and good. “I want to be a light for those who can’t be seen, a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves – to provide hope for the hopeless, and serve as an encouragement,” said Gentil. His musics speaks of hope, love, justice, unity and peace and so did he!

Our line-up of speakers included:

Ginny Sudlow – Event planner, business owner, mom of 6 and United Way spokesperson says, “When it came to others, forgiving and releasing was something I was always able to do. Then one day a shocking reality hit when I realized I had never been able to forgive or release myself. Ginny shared a taste of her inspiring story that left us thinking about forgiveness in our own lives.

Ron Bilton – author of One Piece of a Life – shared his story of resilience after being a victim of childhood sexual abuse. From becoming a world-class athlete to his true calling as a Patrol Sergeant with the Winnipeg Police Service, serving the officers in the aftermath of traumatic and critical events, Ron reminded us that we can draw on our own strength of character to overcome anything. Invest in his book to hear the full story.

Kevin Gibson – had me sobbing on stage in an embarrassing public display of emotions. This big-hearted, 25 year veteran of the Winnipeg Police Service and founder of Status 4 (a charitable organization that helps underserved children use music to grow their themselves strong) shared the personal story of how the power of music has inspired a chicken catcher, police officer, father and humanitarian to make a difference in the world.

Sheena Grobb – An accomplished singer/songwriter and master of the stage, revealed a side to her that she has never brought to the stage before, that which is woven within the music. Without her guitar or songs – Sheena moved the crowd with her spoken words as she allowed her most true and beautiful self to shine through. She challenged us to step up to listen to our own inner truth, no matter how hard it may seem to hear and act on what we know to be our truth.

Sylvia Yaeger – Occupational Therapist and wellness speaker ended us off on a lighter note and reminded us about our mind-body connection and how we alone have the power to change our health and happiness. She skillfully tied the whole evening together, using her ‘year from hell’ to illustrate the power we all have in influence our destiny.

In writing, I can not adequately express the privilege it is for me to host and produce Motivational Mondays in Winnipeg. In addition to being a whole lot of fun, being able to to introduce you to inspiring talent and knowing this evening makes a profound difference in people’s lives (both the performers and the audience) plus it’s an absolute blast!
